What exactly is “upeksvr.exe” that appears in Windows task manager and always gets started on system reboot?
“upeksvr.exe” is a non-system process originating from the fingerprint software developed by UPEK Inc. You can see it under the “process” pane of the Windows Task Manager.
Since it is a non-system process, it can be easily stopped from the Windows Task Manager without any warning, and thus the memory being used by it can be freed easily.
Since it is a process or task, it is an executable started by the host Application as a support system to itself. Hence whenever you start the host Application (in this case the FIngerprint Software), the process “upeksvr.exe” is loaded into the RAM for execution.
This binary is essential for the UPEK software that was used on Vista OS though if you don’t use the fingerprint chip for login, you can uninstall the software and the binary executable.
