Use of two firewalls on my computer at the same time
Hello Arnold.
It is generally a bad idea to run two of the same type of security software at the same time on 1 machine. You should not run 2 software firewalls at the same time. The same goes for anti viruses and anti malware. You can run 1 antivirus + 1 anti-malware + 1 firewall but never 2 of the same type.
It is okay to install 2 firewalls on the same computer but make sure that only 1 is active at any one time. This is because software firewalls have different ways of implementing security. It is possible that one firewall will detect the other firewall's activity as malware activity and vice versa. Having two firewalls running at the same will also consume more memory and more CPU time making your system slower than it should be.
It is okay, however, if you have a software firewall and your network gateway has its own software or hardware firewall.
Whenever you install a third-party software firewall, you will notice that it will disable (or prompt you to disable) the built-in Windows firewall.
Hope this helps.
Use of two firewalls on my computer at the same time
Like what the above post says, it is possible to install a second firewall unless 1 is only active. It creates a kind of conflict on the system when both firewalls are running at the same time. Even if you don’t install a second firewall, Windows on the other hand, already has its own firewall to protect the system. This is the basic protection of the system against unwanted or outside intrusion.
And besides, when installing an antivirus on the system, this too, includes its own firewall protection for your system. This adds strength to the firewall system of the computer which makes it less vulnerable to outside attacks. Installing Norton Internet Security on your computer also adds firewall security. It features Smart Firewall which includes different settings to detect different levels of intrusions.

You can use two firewalls, but they would both fight to do the same work and this would cause problems. It is possible to have a software firewall and a router firewall. One firewall is all you need. They all perform the same functions in the same manner. In fact some vendors' firewall won't even allow you to install their if it detects one already on your computer. Most will automatically disable the windows firewall when you install one. The reason is that one will conflict with other and all sorts of problems can happen. So why cause conflicts when there is absolutely no reason to do so.
