. Network virtualization is the process of combining of software and hardware network functionalities and resources into a single, software-based administration entity. It involves platform virtualization with resource virtualization. It is categorized as External and Internal Virtualization. It is used by software developers to test new software in a simulation of the environment of the network. The components are:

1. Hardware such as switches and network adapter

2. Elements like firewall and load balancer

3. Virtual LAN and Virtual Machines

4. Storage devices

5. Telecommunication devices between machine-to-machine elements

6. Ethernet and Fiber Channel
