Hello there!

I would like to know whether it is possible to retrieve the JPEG photo file by combining two identical photos, one exposed to light color sky and the other exposed to dark color foreground, using the Layers feature in Photoshop Elements?

Anyone got idea?

Thank you…

Hello Pixtone,

For sure you can combine the two photos into one with the use of Photoshop. You will just need to follow the simple steps below:

  • First you need to open the images are as separate documents, both the source image and the one that you want to blend with the target image.
  • You will then need to apply the background layer of the target image by simply pressing Ctrl+J on a PC.
  • You will then choose the source image from the menu that will pop up. It is better to have both the source and target image in the same size in the list.
  • Choose the layer and channel from the source image which you will like to blend with the target image from the 'apply image' window, and then pick the blend mode and opacity you need to use.
  • You can also choose to turn on the preserve transparency and mask check boxes if you want to.
  • And just as simple as that, you will have merged the two images.
