VLC Player stop responding in the middle of the movie

Hi,

I was at home at weekend and I decided to watch some movies using my computer. I used my VLC player. While in the middle of the movie, all of a sudden the movie stopped and  a message pop up my screen, I posted the screen shot below.

VLC media player is not responding

Windows can check for a solution when you go online. If you close the program, you

might lose information.

→  Check  for a solution and close the program

              →   Close the program

→  Wait for the program to respond

When this error message was displayed on my screen, I am wondering about the error message. I managed to play some videos days ago, and suddenly now I cannot run VLC. I checked my computer for some viruses that might infect my computer. After a full scan, there was no virus found. I reinstalled VLC and same error persisted when opening a file. Please help me figure out for some solution to my problem.

Thanks.

Not only VLC experience this problem. If your VLC recently work, this may cause the problem: improper shutdown, corrupted files, and bad sectors/clusters. Even if reinstall your VLC it's useless. Restart your computer. If the CHKDSK loads, don't cancel it and let it finish. All of your bad sectors and cluster are being check and recovered.  If CHKDSK doesn't shows up. Click START, open RUN command. Type chkdsk /f or chkdsk /r (NOTE: the "/r" command takes longer but more effective).

 Restart your Computer. Enjoy!

Hi,
There are many things you could try (and probably have)
 1. Try a different media player
 2. Try a different DVD
 3. Update your codecs (I'm not sure if these are needed to DVD's)
If you're tried all of these, and they haven't work, then the problem might be hardware related.
Have a looking at device manager to see if you DVD ROM drive is active and that it has no issues.
Hope this helps. Post back if you have any more queries or none of the above steps work.

Hi, you say the error persisted after you reinstalled the VLC. I think the problem is on your system. It could be that some other programs made a change to your system and it made the VLC unable to work properly anymore. To fix this, you can do a system restore to make your computer return to a state in the past. Just go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Click Next. The next screen will list some Restore Points. Choose the one with the Date and Time closest to the day your VLC crashed (but make sure it's BEFORE your VLC crashed)

  • Click Next then Finish.
  • Your system will reboot and it will try to return to a past state.
  • After you go back to Windows, open the VLC again and see if it works.
  • If it's still showing the same message, you might want to try other media player. Try Media Player Classic (https://mpc-hc.org/) or KMPlayer (http://download.cnet.com/KMPlayer/3000-13632_4-10659939.html). Both programs can play almost all video formats just like VLC.

Hope that helps 🙂
