Yes Alan, Web application can control hardware. Image editors and advanced games get a new presentation from a graphics chips through Web apps. 

 

Hardware acceleration the temper now among browser makers, it can upgrade speed from animating graphics to laying out everything of a Web page. 

 

Here a latest update GPU’s are design to accelerate visual tasks. Every running program called shades involved in 3D graphics. As graphics grew more powerful, chipmakers such as NVIDIA and AMD achieve more work than just graphics.

 

 

Moving data out of the graphics detach memory into the memory used by the major processor. Drumming directly addicted to the hardware at a stumpy level not only speeds up but also saves valuable battery power.

Hi Allan, most of the hardware internet security device come with subscription base services.  For your parental control needs, antivirus, anti-spam and etc. Sometimes known as UTM (unified threat management) devices.  There are few good Lenux/GNU BSD-based packages. The products are smoothwall (smoothwall.org),clarkconnect (clarkconnect.com) the check point safe @ office security appliance, get it at www.sofaware.com

Are you looking for something more than URL filtering and port blocking?

How much control do you need? Smoothwall 3 does the msm and anti-virus. But may not do all what you want. Just have a spare pc with two network connection.
