What is advantage of separate icons download?

Hello,

I am assuming you are having trouble with download as in your download supposed to be in folder or file, rather you receive a bunch of files with multiple icons. This can happen if you are downloading software and the installation process starts immediately after downloading which may unpack the file resulting in all the installation files. 

So check again what file you are downloading. Another reason maybe you are saving something from a webpage or an entire webpage (if you refer to it as download) you usually get separate icons of multiple icons of different applets.
