What are Microsoft product security patches?
I hate updating my system because it uses up disk space. Why do I have to use some Microsoft product security patches? Are there various types of security patch classification? What are these for?

Hi Wooten,
Microsoft's updates shouldn't take much room on your computer, usually less than a megabyte in size. Updates usually come in the form of a self executable file, so that once you have installed the update, you should be able to delete the .EXE file.
Microsoft security patches are released usually because there is some vulnerability that has been identified with respect to a component of the Microsoft operating system that could mean that your computer is open to some sort of attack. The updates range from Moderate to Critical.
If you are concerned about hard disk space, it would be a best practice to always ensure you apply the Critical patches. The other patches (Important and Moderate), may not be required as much.
It's always best to read up on the security bulletins available on the Microsoft website regarding any security updates.
I hope this helps.
