What are new routers for home use

I had my router for few years now and I know that there are newer models out there better than mine. I don't actually have problems with my current router but is there a way to get it updated?

What are new routers for home use, latest ones. You experts please suggest.

What are new routers for home use

Updating router can be done by logging in to the router's internal settings (GUI). This will allow you to upgrade your hardware's firmware up to the latest version. This does not guaranteed better connections but at least, it'll be compatible with the newer wireless adapter and it's software components.

Logging in to the router's GUI by opening up your browser, then type the default's gateway of the router.

 

An example of router's GUI is shown in the picture below.

 

Go to 192.168.1.1

Log-in with the use of router's credential

Once log-in, go to Administration

Then you can upgrade the Firmware version.

 

This is the process of updating the firmware. This will only eliminate possible incompatibility issue between router's wireless connection and the wireless adapter's latest version.

The newer and one of the best router available is Linksys WRT54GL. This is compatible with Linux operating system and it has wider bandwidth of wireless signal. This newer modem can be emphasized in making home wireless networking, easier access and easy set-up, can be done in five minutes.

What are new routers for home use

You should first know that process of upgrading the firmware of your router is risky, and it may void your warranty. Besides that, when you complete that process, you are not guaranteed that you will have better speed, quality of connection, etc. Check firmware update details on the web-site of manufacturer of your router to see is it worth of updating.
