What is a better free anti virus

Just bought my own computer, comes in with Windows 7 OS but no anti-virus.

I am currently thinking which is better of the free anti-viruses.

Can you please tell me which is better with AVAST or AVG?

I came upon a site comparing the two, hope you can give me better comparisons.

Both Avast and AVG are two of the top free anti-virus software's available for download. As you can see from the image you posted, Avast is more capable than AVG when it comes to protecting your computer especially if you would install Avast's latest version, Avast Home Edition 6.0.

Avast is rated much higher than AVG as from installation to scanning Avast performs much faster than AVG without compromising any of its effectiveness or functionality. Avast is also lightweight compared to AVG therefore it doesn't require high computer specifications nor will it significantly slow down your computer while scanning. These are just some of the important differences between Avast and AVG.

What is a better free anti virus

I have experience using both Avast and AVG. In my experience, Avast slows up the machine and AVG is more effective. Whatever antivirus you install in your machine, the bottom line is you have to update the software periodically and keep the virus database up-to-date. My suggestion is to start with AVG. If you are satisfied with the performance, continue with it, else uninstall it and install Avast.

I think Windows 7 comes with Microsoft Security Essentials. It is a good product and I have it currently in my machine.
