Computer Network: A computer network is the infrastructure that allows two or more computers (called hosts) to communicate with each other. The network achieves this, by providing a set of rules for communication, called protocols, which should be observed by all participating hosts.
The need for a protocol should be obvious:
It allows different computers from different vendors and with different operating characteristics to ‘speak the same language’.
Network Components: The network is made up of two types of components: nodes and communication lines. The nodes typically handle the network protocols and provide switching capabilities. The communication lines may take many different shapes and forms, even in the same network.
Examples include: copper wire cables, optical fiber, radio channels, and telephone lines.
Hi Samuel,
A computer network in simple terms is the connection of computers for the purpose of sharing network resources and exchange of information. The components of a network include the computers, the information to be shared and other computing equipment like printers, switches, routers, cables that contribute to the performance of the network.
In a networked environment, you will not need to move from one work station to another for the purpose of transferring information, for you can simply transfer that information to the other PCs while you are seated at your work station. Another importance of a computer network is that you can access information from anywhere in the world. Emailing is a concept of computer networks, that allows you to retrieve your emails wherever anytime.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
A computer network is interconnected by communication channels, that allow sharing of resources and collection of computers that process of connecting device, using hardware and software, so that data can be transferred and shared between them. The network can manage and operate the power control algorithms, power management, network planning and network performance measurements.
A LAN connects computers in restricted to small areas, such as one office building, typically home, whereas WANs span different cities or countries and must be different in their layout and design. The performance of the network can be evaluated by methods, flow control, scheduling, routing, testing and verification and multimedia quality of service.
These are the main components of the Networks PC, Network Interface Card (NIC), Hub, Switch and Router and Bridge.
I had the same problem and I'm very thankful to Lee hung for clearing my curiosity. Thanks
