When I opened my Adobe Dreamweaver today a Microsoft virtual c++ error message appears. What’s the connection of Microsoft virtual to my Dreamweaver?  Why is it that every time I opened my Dreamweaver the same error message appears? How   can I resolved this problem?

Hi Jo

In order to resolve the error message every time you use Adobe Dreamweaver, you need to follow the steps below. The custom settings associated with your current preferences file will be lost after following the steps but you can still restore the preferences file.

-Close Adobe application.

-Rename the preferences file to [PrefFilename].old located at C: Documents and SettingsuserApplication DataAdobeAdobeDreamweaverCS4folder.

-Start the application to create a new preferences file.

If you will encounter the same problem, delete the new preferences file and restore the name of the old preferences file. Simply renaming the [PrefFilename].old to the original name will do it. The next step is to re-create a new preferences folder.

-Close Adobe application.

-Navigate to C: Documents and SettingsuserApplication DataAdobeAdobeDreamweaverCS4.

-Move the preferences folder to another location. (example to the desktop)

-Start Adobe to create a new preferences folder.

If you will encounter the same problem, restore the old preferences folder. Simply put the original folder to C: Documents and SettingsuserApplication DataAdobeAdobeDreamweaverCS4 and select yes to replace.

Last step is to install the Adobe to a new User Account.

Hope you find this helpful.

Cheers

If you encountered a runtime error on Microsoft Visual C++ while using or when starting Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 in Windows XP, try moving the Dreamweaver CS4 folder located in Application Data to the Recycle Bin or simply delete it in Windows Explorer. To do this, start Windows Explorer or double-click My Computer then click Tools and then select Folder Options.

Select View tab then scroll down and select “Show hidden files and folders” under “Hidden files and folders” section. Click OK then go to the following location: “C:Documents and Settings[username]Application DataAdobeDreamweaver CS4”. Delete or move the Dreamweaver CS4 folder to the Recycle Bin. After deleting or moving the Dreamweaver CS4 folder to Recycle Bin, start Adobe Dreamweaver again then see if this works.

This method is quite unusual but it literally worked and the user who did this didn’t loose any of its site settings. If this doesn’t fix your problem, go to Troubleshoot C++ Runtime Errors and try every method that Adobe recommends in troubleshooting the problem with Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error.
