What to do when Windows malfunctions after update

Ever since the Windows version was updated on my desktop computer, my machine is not working or in order words not responding to commands issued after the last restart of my machine when the update (I am sure) was done. What could be the possible cause to this malfunction? Please I need help in that I have a dead line to complete my project and all my backups are on the machine. Thank you.

Actually, it can be a patch or a minor issue that causes the problem.

• Try updating the drivers of the devices that are connected, 
• Run sfc /scannow command & check for file related issues.
• Verify the proper functionality of the memory & hard drive (any malfunction would need a replace or technical assistance)
• If all these steps fail to solve the issue, try uninstalling the latest update that you suspect to have caused the issue.
