What is the exact ratio of speed between hard disk and RAM?
- Actually saying there is no ratio from Hard disk to RAM(Random Access Memory) and is so important to know that at least minimum of 2GB RAM for the windows to run normally and hence its not possible to say the exact ratio between the devices you mentioned.
- If the ratio can be measured between the two then it may be difficult to know how the exact ratio of the 2 devices must be as they cannot be calculated and the hard disk is also called as storage as it is used to store the data and calculated in Megabytes in short we call as MB.
- Hard drive the storage device is used for long time and can store large amount of data based on the storage provided for the Hard Disk.
- RAM will be in the form of computer chips as these chips can be plugged into the special connectors provided in the computer and general purpose of these chips is to provide the quicker storage for the ease use of computer.
- Remember whenever the computer loads the file from hard disk then that information goes into the hard drive and will be placed in the RAM.

I’m not sure what’s the relevance of this since both devices’ speed is calculated differently. Like for instance, the RAM or particularly the SDRAM, the speed of this type of device is measured in terms of megahertz or MHz. Often, the last digit of a memory part number will represent the speed such as -6 = 60ns [nanoseconds].
In a hard drive, the speed or the device seek time is measured by Revolutions Per Minute or RPM. Modern hard drives today that can usually be bought on computer stores have 7200 RPM. Older hard drives have lesser RPM which means a much slower performance. The hard drive’s performance is hardly noticeable when transferring or copying smaller files. You can only distinguish how fast it is when you are copying big file sizes like in GBs.

Dear GAShahid,
As far I now there is no exact ratio between RAM and hard disk of computer. RAM is essential to run the computer smoothly if RAM size is high then the performance of a computer will be high and hard disk is used for storage data. For normal work I think 2 GB RAM and 320 GB hard disk enough. One things if you use 4GB or more ram you must use 64 bit operating system otherwise the ram remain unusable.
Thanks and Regards
