What is gpg silk all about and its usage?

Why some software needs gpg silk? it always appear on some of my program. Does anyone know why and its usage?

What is gpg silk all about and its usage?

Hello John,

            GPG or the Gnu Privacy Guard is free software that allows you to encrypt and sign your data and email messages. It encrypts your email so that only the intended person can read it. It can also be used to apply a digital signature on your message so that the receiver can be certain from where the message came from and that it was not altered because it will be detected by GPG.
