I am trying to search for the best desktop recorder that can record all the activities on my desktop. Please include the step-by-step process and the correct configuration for it. I need the most popular desktop recorder available on the market today. Thanks.

I would suggest SCREENCAST-O-MATIC they offer two version of Desktop recorder first Version is for Free and other one would be for $15/year.

Cam studio is the most common.

With it you are able to record on screen even audio activity on your computer.

You can save them on a simple easy to use AVI format or convert it to the format you really want to use
