The following is how you go about using disk management to partition your hard disk in windows XP:

  1. First you will need to have logged on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
  2. And then on your computer you will click Start, and then click Run, and after that type compmgmt.msc, and then click OK.
  3. You will need to locate the console tree, and then click Disk Management.
  4. The Disk Management window will appear, and there you will see the disks and volumes in a graphical view and list view.
  5. You will just need to right click on the disk you want to partition and the choose shrink.
  6. Specify the volume, the letter for that partition, format it and you are good to go.
