I have heard Microsoft has officially got rid of the name metro for its new OS.

The name Metro that windows had adopted for its new operating system windows resulted into a seeming dispute with a European partner called the Metro Group. That forced Microsoft to switch instead of fighting for a name that suits the Windows 8 metro design language.

So it was decided that windows 8 operating system will just be called Windows 8. According to some sources, the following claims that justifies this were made. For instance:

  • There are claims saying that anything that is called "Metro-Style application" right now, with or without a hyphen, will now be officially called "Windows 8 application."
  • There is also a claim that anything that is referred to as "Metro-Style application", with or without a hyphen, will now bear the name "Windows 8 application."

Its true Silvia, Microsoft changed Metro to Windows 8.

This is because this new application is compatible for both Windows RT and Windows 8, hence the name Metro had to be removed since it did not show that it would be compatible for these two versions. It's also argued that Microsoft is always called the Windows store, not metro store hence the change of name.

We all are looking forward for the launch this August.
