While using Microsoft FrontPage, I receive an error (shown in the screenshot) when I go to delete a certain folder or file.
How can I solve the problem?
Error Deleting File or Folder
Cannot delete Folder: It is being used by another person or program.
Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.
What is the reason of the Microsoft FrontPage error message?
Hi Colleen,
Using Microsoft FrontPage you can plan, create, and work with web sites.
However, before we start designing and creating our web pages, we first need to set the site up to hold those pages.
The error “Cannot delete Folder: It is being used by another person or program.Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.” may occur because of the following reasons :
1. If you try to delete a website folder which is up and running that is one of the pages of the website is open in any browser. In that case first close the browser and then try to delete the folder.
2. There may be some images in a website folder which is used by some other website .In that case first close all the webpages of both sites.
3. May be you don’t have the permission to delete the folder or the folder is read only. Add the permission to the folder and remove read only property.
What is the reason of the Microsoft FrontPage error message?
Hullo Colleen,
This error message “Error Deleting file or folder” is generated when the folder is being used by windows or another program running in windows.
You can delete these files by the steps below:-
1. Delete the file again after some time since the program or windows may still be closing and using the file you’re attempting to delete.
2. Close and locate the programs which might be using the file and also close explorer window and open again.
3. Restart your computer. If the error message still comes that unable to delete the file, boot the computer into safe mode and delete.
4. There is a software program called Unlocker which you can also use. It is designed to unlock any file being used by windows or other programs without restarting the computer.
Hope this will save you.
What is the reason of the Microsoft FrontPage error message?
That’s a very common error I usually encounter. It mostly happens if a particular folder is currently in use by an application. A program cannot literally use a folder as an object since it cannot be loaded into the program. But the files it contains will make the folder busy if one of them is loaded into a program thus preventing you from deleting that folder.
That’s practically reasonable because you cannot trash a container (folder) if one or more of its contents are being processed. To delete that folder, close any programs that are currently running and then try deleting the folder again. If this doesn’t work, restart your computer and delete the folder. That should work.
If you don’t have any programs running but you cannot delete the folder, restarting the computer will help because it will free the folder from any process.
