What is SharePoint and the idea of using it

I don't know what SharePoint is.

I don't have sufficient idea about it. Please give me some idea about it.

What is SharePoint and the idea of using it

• A SharePoint is a central point hosted on a server where different file types can be accessed, edited and shared among different users anywhere in the world.
   
• In comparison to your desktop computer, SharePoint is like your hard drive where you can save different file format and you can enable or disable other users on that computer to have access to your files.
   
• The SharePoint though does not only allow users to access the local machine but it allows any user or multiple users with internet connection to access a certain files or document. The user simply typed in the URL of a certain SharePoint to access it.

SharePoint is a web application platform developed by Microsoft. It is designed as a centralized replacement for multiple web applications and supports various combinations of enterprise website requirements.

It is associated with web content management and document management systems. Its multi-purpose platform allows for managing and provisioning of intranet portals, extranets and websites, document management and file management, collaboration spaces, social networking tools, enterprise search, business intelligence tooling, information integration, and 3rd party development solutions.

It is designed to be highly scalable. It is capable of supporting multiple organizations on a single server farm. It provides various methods of customization and configuration of web areas, all of which have granular governance configurations.
