I would suggest you to learn PHP and MYSQL. This is always a good idea because, say you want to modify it to your specifications, it would be easy to make changes.

You can check out PHP-Diary, it is a fast open source software that you can use to save entries in a database or a file. It has multiple browser compatibility and a good authentication system.
