If your laptop won’t connect to your Wi-Fi, check the credentials used to connect to the Wi-Fi network. To connect a device to a Wi-Fi network, you need to know the SSID of the Wi-Fi network. SSID stands for Service Set Identifier and is the name of the Wi-Fi network. It is a case-sensitive alphanumeric character identifier that can be up to 32 characters long that identifies a network.

Make sure the SSID you specify in your laptop is the same as the SSID of the Wi-Fi network. The casing of the characters must be the same. If this is correct, the next thing you need to check is the password used to connect to the Wi-Fi network. The passphrase or pre-shared key that secures a Wi-Fi network is case-sensitive.

You need to enter the password exactly as it is. A character in the password that uses a wrong case is already a wrong password. The encryption method used should also be the same. If the Wi-Fi network uses WPA2 encryption method, you also need to select WPA2 in your laptop. You can check what encryption method is used on the Wi-Fi network on your laptop.

The encryption method used is attached to the Wi-Fi name or SSID which is displayed in your laptop. After following these, you should be able to connect to your Wi-Fi. If you don’t know the SSID or Wi-Fi name in case it is hidden, you won’t be able to connect to the Wi-Fi network even if you know the password.
