What is Virtual Memory in A Cloud?

I have been looking into setting up my first cloud website. I came across the term virtual memory but term but did not understand what it meant? Does this meant the same thing as the memory in your computer like ram or like the space on your hard drive for a computer?

What is Virtual Memory in A Cloud?

Hi Donald G Gibbons Virtual memory is a feature of an operating system that allows a computer to compensate the shortages of physical memory by transferring temporarily  pages of data from random access memory (RAM) to your disk storage. After that the OS will need to retrieve the data that were moved to temporary disk storage
