When turn on, my dell laptop shows black screen

I am using DELL VOSTRO 1088. My laptop was running well and suddenly laptop is automatically restarted and the screen is going blank and black after showing the windows logo. I also restart laptop, no changes in my screen. I have important doc on ‘c’ drive so I can’t format this. How to solve this problem without formatting? Please help. Thank You

When turn on, my dell laptop shows black screen

Follow the steps below to restore your computer to the Last Know Good Configuration

1. Reboot your computer.
2. When the computer starts up, press the F8 key on the keyboard repeatedly.
3. This will bring up the Windows Advance Options Menu as shown in the picture below.
4. Push the Down Arrow key on your keyboard until you get to Last Known Good Configuration (advanced) option
5. Press Enter

Running this configuration will restore your computer’s working system settings without deleting anything on your computer.

The second thing to try is to perform a Built in Self-test.  To do that:

1. Turn the computer on.
2. Press in and hold the D key while the pc is booting up.
3. Different colors will appear on your screen.
4. Once the self-test has completed, reboot and see if the problem is fixed.
