Why do I need Lenovo energy utility for function keys?

Recently I purchased Lenovo laptop. I do remember when I was customizing it before purchase; there was a utility for energy management listed. One of its features was, supporting some of function keys.

I want to know, why do I need Lenovo energy utility for function keys? On the other hand it is clear this utility is for energy management, so why for function keys?

Why do I need Lenovo energy utility for function keys?

Lenovo Energy Management software is used for power management. Here is a photo than will make it clear for you.

As you can see you have the possibility to turn off your LAN card or Wireless card. In addition, you can lower the quality of colors displayed on your screen and this will obviously allow you to save energy and extend your battery life.

When you install Lenovo Energy Management software, you also install a Function Hot-key or shortcut key tool that will let you use Fn function keys in your computer.
