I am assuming this is happening without your authorisation. And if it is, you can follow several steps depending upon the problem.
1. A process may be invoking the installer and you can manually stop it through task manager. You have to terminate ‘msiexec.exe.’
2. Make sure you havethe latest version of Windows installer. If not, update it.
3. There is a high chance that your installer is corrupted. You have to remove it and install again. Run ‘system file checker’ and restart the computer once the scan is completed.
4. Run a complete anti-virus scan on your PC and check for malware.
5. If the above doesn’t work. Re-register Microsoft installer as follows. Type the following commands in cmd (start menu) and press enter:
a. msiexec/unregister
b. msiexec/regserver
One possible cause why the Windows Installer keeps popping up is a corrupt Windows Installer. To fix this, click “Start”, “All Programs”, “Accessories”, right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator”. Enter your password when you are prompted to continue. In the command prompt window, enter without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. Insert your Windows setup CD in your optical drive when you are prompted and then continue.
When you are finished, restart your computer then see if it appears again. If this doesn’t work, try downloading Windows Installer Cleanup Utility then install it. The tool will help you fix possible problems with the Windows Installer. The tool is designed to fix problems that normally prevent applications from getting installed, uninstalled, or updated as well as fix corrupt registry keys associated to these problems.
In case this utility cannot run on your computer, download Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter instead. This is the replacement for the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility which was discontinued. The Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter works on Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10.
