Yes, it is important to connect Outlook with Microsoft Office 365. By connecting, your data related to Microsoft Office will get synchronized with the Cloud, and you can access it from anywhere by just opening your Outlook. It is similar to iCloud.
You have to just sign up for your Microsoft Outlook account in the Microsoft Office. Or while installing from office.com, you can sign-up there with your Microsoft account. This will help you in linking your data.
If you are referring “Outlook” to “Outlook on the Web“, in September 2018 Microsoft will be removing the ability to add new accounts using the Connected accounts feature. This means after September 15, 2018 you will no longer be able to connect new accounts. Accounts that were connected prior to September 15 will continue to sync normally until October 30, 2018.
All connected accounts will stop synchronizing email on October 30. The Connected accounts option will be removed from Outlook on the Web on November 15 (Settings > Mail > Accounts). Email that has already synchronized will still appear on your inbox unless you remove it manually.
