Why Microsoft has many virus issue compare to others
Well, first Microsoft Windows is more 'accepting' to third party applications than Apple's Macs. Macs only accept applications that are approved and/or released by Apple. Otherwise these won't be installed on the Mac system. Windows on the other hand accepts any software written for Windows by anybody. Therefore, if someone creates a virus and wants to spread it, it is easier to spread it on Windows compared to a Mac. If you also consider the market share, Windows has a way bigger market share than Mac computers. So if someone wishes to spread something, he'd better spread it using the operating that has the most market share. More market share, better chances of spreading the virus. More infected machines, the better for that person.
Why Microsoft has many virus issue compare to others
One explanation for that is the number of people using OS X compared to the number of people using Microsoft Windows. There are only very few people who are interested in using a Mac. If a programmer will design a virus that will collect personal data from a computer, you will have very few users to target to on a Mac PC unlike with users who are into Microsoft Windows.
This is the only viable reason why an attacker doesn’t target OS X users. There is much to gain when you attack Windows users than target OS X users. But this was before. At present, the OS X operating system is getting attacked more frequently than before. In 2006, a virus called “OSX/Leap” was discovered and it targets Apple’s iChat instant messaging system.
It is a Trojan worm combo that spread through the iChat system. The infected file would pop up in a buddy’s iChat window claiming to have photos of the then-upcoming OS X Leopard. Once the file is installed, the worm infects recently installed applications with poisoned code turning them into unusable programs.
