Hello
I purchased a new personal computer a few days ago.
Everything was working perfectly fine until today when I got an error while trying to play a movie in media player.
It gives me some version Miss match error which is given below.
Windows Media Player
The file wmploc.dll has a version number of 11.0.6001.7000 where 11.0.6002.16489 was expected.
Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to install the Player form the Microsoft Web site?
I was first shocked to see this error making video play back almost impossible as I saw some movies in last days on the media player and every thing was working fine and steady.
Then I tried to update media player and install patches but every thing goes into a vein.
Please suggest a work around for this error.
Thanks.
Windows media player error playing movies
Hi there, I am Robbie Bles
Now, to solve your problem, you need to delete a few keys in your registry that is causing such error in your system.
Here's how you can do it:
-
First of all, go to Start then look for and execute Run.
-
In Run type in regedit and press the OK button or press the Enter key, Registry Editor should open.
-
In the Registry Editor navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMediaPlayerSetup
and delete the following keys: wmp.dll, wmploc.dll and wmplayer.exe.
-
Restart your computer.
This should fix the error you are having. I hope this helps.

Windows media player error playing movies
Hi JayRon,
I hope this will answer to your problem.
There are many ways to watch movies in your computer.
Why not try another software like VLC ?
Because VLC player  is simple, powerful and fast. And it plays everything, files, Discs, devices and streams.
It is also an open source player.
Which means it works in any Operating System you have.
And the most good side of this software is this is Free.
