Windows that are being run on power-efficient chips from ARM will give way to smaller, lighter devices and bring in new vibrancy as asserted today by Microsoft. What is the significance of this to PC users?
Windows running on power – efficient chips
Â
Hi there,
Ever since the first Windows was released by Microsoft, it was always for the x 86 platforms i.e. intel or AMD processors. Microsoft was adamant that it will not change its stance on its verdict regarding platforms. Fast forward to 2012, it seemed pretty clear that there are more than one platform emerging and Microsoft has to broaden its horizon in order to succeed in the future.
Windows 8 marks the first time Microsoft have been open to multiple platforms. This is a significant turn in tech history as this will mark the first time ever Windows will be available on ARM devices. Windows 8 will no doubt be primarily targeted on the PC platform but with windows 8 support for ARM processors, we will see mobile devices and tablets running windows 8 as well.
Hope that answers your question.
