A server CAL is a required license that gives the right to access services from Microsoft server software. Each user that access the server must have the access license.

Different types of CALs:

  • User CAL: A user CAL allows a single user to connect multiple devices without having CALs for multiple devices.
  • Device CAL: It allows any number of users to connect to the server via a single device having the license.
  • Processor license: these are only available to few Microsoft server products such as Application center, BizTalk Server.
