Windows Server and Active Directory

Hi,

I have a server running SBS 2003. In the last few days the hard drive crashed/died and had to take it to data recovery company.  I had a replacement drive installed and the recovery company had luck recovering the image, and we installed it into the new server hard drive.

As far as am concerned everything is ok as except one kind of a crucial thing in active drive users and computers. I can no longer create objects.

I have tried creating computers and accounts but both fail and I get the following error message:

Active Directory

Windows cannot create the object testuser because:

The directory service encountered an unknown failure.  OK

The server is working fine, but the error makes it very uncomfortable and may crucial if not rectified. I have researched on the Internet, posted in several forums, but still not been able to obtain helpful information to correct this error.

Does anyone know what I can try to get this system back operating properly?

Thank you.

Hi,

Log in to the domain controller and examined the event viewer as first trouble shoot method because Active Directory and the server will report to the event viewer for the every operational failure.

If you review the event viewer that explain elaborately with the related error of warning event triggered before or after the issue.

Additional information:
  • Make sure the domain controller up and working fine in the network.
  • Make sure that the network settings are configured correctly to obtain the domain setting in the workstation especially the preferred DNS and the alternative DNS.
  • Make sure the DNS are up and working fine with the domain.
