To view Microsoft Windows virtual memory or page file settings do the following steps.

Go to My Computer icon on the desktop ; right-click on it ; now go to properties ; then you see System Properties Window ; click the Advanced tab or Advance system setting link. In the Advance tab under performance; click the Settings button and finally in the Performance Options window, click Advance tab.

This will display how much virtual memory your computer is using.

If you want you can also change the settings.

Here is also another way of viewing or changing your Windows 7’s page file without right-clicking on My Computer.

  • In the Start Menu search box, enter “Advanced System Settings”, without double quotes, then select Control Panel applet from the list that appears.
  • Select View advanced system settings.
  • In Performance Options window, select Advanced tab then Settings.
  • Under Virtual memory, click Change.

  • You can then customize the settings of the page file on the next window that appears. You can select between Custom size, System managed size, or No paging file.

Also remember not to select the No paging file option. This might make your operating system unstable because Windows can’t run without a swap file or page file. Just click OK then restart your computer for the new changes to take effect.
