My Windows Xp machine keeps on booting in Safe mode after I installed a DirectX 9.x which is needed to run the game  have installed. It seems that the video card drivers isn't compatible for the DirectX9.x but that is only my presumption.

Can someone tell me what is the problem with my computer? Is my presumptions right?

First you must download DirectX 9.0 again in case of previous file could be corrupted. Completely uninstall the installed DirectX versions from your machine.

To avoid unnecessary mess ups with the DirectX version numbers in the Windows XP registry do the following. Click start -> Run -> type regedit and Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftDirectX and delete all registry values.

If your problem still persists try to install following DirectX versions top to bottom.

4.09.0000.0900 DirectX 9.0
4.09.0000.0901 DirectX 9.0a
4.09.0000.0902 DirectX 9.0b
4.09.0000.0904 DirectX 9.0c

May be your VGA card does not support DirectX 9.0 .you can check the versions that it is compatible with by visiting to manufactures website and search under model number.

Hi,

Since your using windows XP, the thing is the directx you installed is not compatible with your system.

Immediately backup your sensitive data (Internet Explorer Favorites; Netscape Bookmarks, Address Book and Netscape Mail Folders; Outlook Express Address Books and Folders (compress any Netscape Mail or Outlook Express folders first) letters, pictures, databases, spreadsheets, music, etc.) to removable media for restoring later, in case you need to re-install Windows.

It may be that your only solution is to re-install Windows.
